The Worst Day of My Season

Today, was the worst day of my season. I was practicing, and towards the end, when we were conditioning, a girl sprawled on my head. I didn't think anything of it so I just kept on practicing. A little after that, we went running, and I collapsed in the middle of the track. All I remember is waking up in the trainers office. When I was feeling a little better, the trainer told me I got a mild concussion and he said I would be out for atleast two weeks. I couldn't beleive it, and I can't even describe how I felt. Im going to the doctor's on Saturday, so we'll see where it goes from there. I got my fingers crossed:/

Mililani Wrestling Tournament Blackout!

Last night there was a island-wide blackout, and in some areas there still was no power. Today was supposed to be the Mililani tournament, but it got cancelled because the power was still out in Mililani. We woud've had practice in Kaneohe at Castle instead, but there was no power as well. I guess we can look at this as a blessing in disguise letting us have a weekend of rest.

Castle Westling Day Camp

Every year Castle High School Wrestling holds a day camp that runs from eight o’clock in the morning to four o’clock in the afternoon for three days. The day camps have a set schedule as well. In the morning, right at eight o’clock, we started the day off with a forty-five minute run. After that, we stretched, and at nine o’clock we had breakfast. Then, we got to have a little rest leading us to the next practice scheduled for the day.
The second practice ran from ten thirty to twelve thirty. These practices weren’t like any other practice though, they were harder. A lot more conditioning, a lot more wrestling, and a lot more tiring all together. After practice was done, we had lunch at about one o’clock. Then, we had about an hour and a half to relax, take a shower, and we even got to review some of our matches from preseason.
The third practice of the day is just like regular everyday practice, but ending with ten minute live wrestling matches. It was the same schedule for each day, but it was a lot of hard work. After each day I was sore, beat up, and tired. It was hard waking up each morning knowing what was coming, but I managed to keep a positive train of thought and a good attitude. I’m glad I went through with it just as much that its over, and I look forward to the camps to come and the new things I can learn from it every year.

Day #2 Of Maui Invitationals

Waking up this morning was better than ever. The blood was flowing, and I was eager to get on the mats and start wrestling. There were only two teams that slept over last night, but before I could notice the gym was full of wrestling teams ready to start off the day great. There were no weigh ins today, and the tournament started at twelve o’clock. But even though it started at twelve, teams were already warming up from way before.
The first round I had a bye, so the first half of the tournament I didn’t wrestle at all. There were two boy rounds to one girl round at a time, and it went on to about four o’clock. After that there was a break, so while everyone went to go take showers or get ready for first or third place matches, officials set up the matches and got all the medals and awards into place. Six o’clock came faster than I thought, and I was ready to give it my all.
When the time for my match came and they called my name, I was excited and couldn’t wait to start. The girl I versed from Canada the day before was my opponent again. I new this was going to be a tough one, but I made to sure to keep my train of thought in the right direction. The match went surprisingly the same except she got the last takedown point. I know I could’ve done better, but what is done is done, just that next year I’m going to come back stronger and ready to take that first place medal.

Day #1 Of Maui Invitationals

It was a long and hard day today; the first day of the Official Maui Invitational Varsity Tournament. Teams get invited to go to this tournament from different states, and countries as well. So wrestling in this tournament is a big deal because everyone there is in it to win it. Weigh ins were at nine o'clock, and the whole tournament started at twelve o'clock ending around 10:30 at night. In my weight division, I had a total of ten wrestlers, and a lot of them were from outer island, other states, and one from Canada.
In the morning, after weigh ins, we were the first team to get on the mats, and start warming up. We usually do a light practice before the tournament starts. This helps us to get loose, stretch out, and practice moves we might use in a match. Everything from regular stretching to live wrestling for smaller rounds than usual.
In the first round, I had a match against a girl from King Kealakehe, and pinned her in the third round with fifty eight seconds left. Going in to that match not knowing anything about her technique or strength was hard because usually I watch my competition at tournaments. She was strong, but she got tired really fast. Then the time for the next round came, and I was excited and ready to do what ever it takes to get to the top.
She was a lot taller than me, and she looked pretty strong too; not to mention she was from Canada. As much as all of this sounded like it was going to be a done deal, I went in as open-minded as I could ready to just wrestle with all I got. I felt so good, releived, and tired because I knew I worked hard, but a win can only do so much

After that, because I got second place last year in OIA's I had a bye for my last match of the day. I think I worked hard and I'm proud but ready for what tommorow brings for me.

The First Tournament of the Season

Today was the seasons first preseason wrestling tournament. It felt good to get back in the groove again. It's been so long since the last time I wrestled in a tournament, and so far it feels great. It was a round robin tournament, and that means that you weigh in and you wrestling people closest to what you weigh in at. For most preseason tournaments there are no weight divisions, usually that is only for regular season tournaments. Anyway, today I wrestled three matches, in the varsity division, against kapolei, farrington, and another kapolei girl, and I won all of them. It was a hard and long day, but I managed to keep my head up.

The first match was against a kapolei girl, and it went by pretty fast. I was pumped up, and being away from "the mat" and my competition, for almost a whole year, just made it worse. I went in there determined for a win, and a win was what I got. I tried to get a cradle on her, but I was trying to swing her around the wrong way. After that, I flipped her over and pinned her in a half nelson in thirty seconds. I was happy that I won, but there is always room for improvement. Then, I sat and waited for a good two and a half hours till my next match. The anticipation of the next match just ate me alive, especially as I saw other wrestlers compete, but I managed to just relax and prepare mentally for what was coming.
They called my name, and I was just raging with determination, determination of another win. I went up, blocked everything out, and set my mind for my next opponent. She wrestled for farrington, and she too won her last match, so even more I wanted to win. The match started. We shook hands, and before I knew it we were on the ground. A pair of two-year-wrestlers head-to-head? It was tough. She got two points, then I did, then she did, and we went back and forth. Then, what seems to be just like a blink of an eye, it was the third period. Both of us, giving it our all we started using that extra push of that "winning mind set." Tired, I managed to roll her over and get her into a wrestling arm bar, and I pinned her in the third period with twenty-three seconds left.
I almost lost!?! Even though I won, I was very disappointed. I wasn't following what my coach was yelling at me during the match, and I was definitely not wrestling at my best. A win is a win though, but the way I won was just sloppy. Mad at myself, I went outside to calm down, and think about what I did wrong so I don't get caught doing it again in the next match. From this match, I learned to always wrestle at my best because just a little less can prevent me that much more from getting to where I want to be at. But while I was thinking about this, it counted down the minutes till I had my last match.
Finally, the time had come, and I was ready. Jumping in place and getting in the zone with my competitor right next to me, I knew this was my last chance to really get everything together and end this tournament in a good note. I walked on the mat, got in my stance, and got ready to give it my all. This girl was from kapolei, she weighed almost eight pounds heavier than me. That might not seem like a lot, but in wrestling just the slightest pound or two makes a huge difference. She forced all her weight on me, and she almost pinned me but I got out. Then, I shot in for a double leg, and got a take down. I tried to get an arm bar almost pinning her, but the first period ended too quick.
The reff flipped a red and green coin, and I got choice and picked down. As soon as the reff blew the whistle, I got up and fought for my escape. I took her down in head lock with a sprawl, and pinned her in a half nelson with exactly one minute and eight seconds left on the clock in the second period. I was happy that I won, but again there is always room for improvement. We shook hands, and the reff held up my hand stating that I won. I hugged my opponent, shook her coaches hands, and walked off the mat happy and proud but with good sportsmanship. Today, was the start of a new season, a new team, a new me, and I'm happy with what I have accomplished today. And even though the endeavors ahead are still yet to be discovered, I know this season will help me grow in all aspects of my life for the future, present, and even the past, and I'm glad I chose to wrestle again this year.

first post

This is my first post. I will write about my wrestling experiences seeing that I am an expert in this field. I will also garner support from others who are experts like me.

This is a example of a excellent post.
