Practices for the Week

It was the same old thing. Just doing a bunch of tests. No more training on the mat. The only thing i get to see for every practice is the track, or the inside walls of the trainers office. GREAT! I LOVE THE COLOR white. ITS SO BORING AND DULL. YAY! I cant wait for next years season, or waterpolo; just something other than this.

Monday Practice Turnout!

SO I went to practice today. It went pretty well. Took the impact test again, thought I was going to pass it again, but guess what I was wrong. He said i improved a little, but it still wasn't good enough. So im still stuck doing the same damn thing every day. Walking here, stretching this, watching this, taking this test that test, bycicling; everything but wrestling! I coudn't believe it. Its only my second year, and look...a wasted season. I gues for now all I can say is goodbye wrestling, hello waterpolo. No more wrestling till next years season.

McKinley Tournament!

It was the last dual meet for the season, and it was intense. On Friday, we wrestled against Kaiser and Monalua High school. Kaiser's team was stacked, so I knew it would be a tough one. Moanalua had as many wrestler's as us, but were very experienced wrestlers. Almost all of the wrestlers from both teams made it to states last year, so we knew that it was going to be a big day.
When we first went up against Kaiser, we knew we had to work twice as hard to keep our winning streak going. Every body on our team had a match, except some girls because Kaiser only has two girls wrestling. When we first started out, Jason Spiker, last years state champ, went up against our 108lbs, and we lost. This dual meet was very discouraging. We lost everything on the boys side, but the girls were a different story. The two matches our girl wrestlers had, we won with a first round pin. Those last two matches were exciting, but we still lost.
The Moanalua Tournament was even worse. Only a few had matches, considering how small both of our teams were, but we tried our best, I guess. We did not win one match on either the boys or girl side. As disappointing it was, we just had to await 'till Saturday, and come back twice as hard against McKinley and Kaimuki High School.
Saturday was a different story, we were stronger than ever, more successful than ever, and most definitely ready for the challenges ahead of us. Friday was long, hard, and discouraging, but I could feel it that day; that we would be better than we ever was. McKinley high school had only about three people on their team, and Kaimiki only had about five. As small as they sound, if you think about it, we only have about eight more guys then both teams so were just as small.
McKinley was a good one. There were only matches on the boys side, but we still did good. The whole day there were no girl matches at all. We won all our matches against McKinley with pins every match. We were on a roll, and we couldn't wait to go against Kaimiki. I knew that Saturday was going to be great, I could feel that Saturday was going to be a great day.
Kaimuki was even better. We won all five matches, with again some more pins in the first round. We breezed right through it, and by the time we noticed it was time to leave. We were only there for about three hours, and leaving the school to go home at about 4:45 was awesome. Now, its tonight and Sunday off, then back to practicing on Monday. I HOPE SAM LETS ME BACK ON THE MAT!

Practices for the Week

Practice was boring all week. All I could do was run around the track, do the bicycle, and the elliptical. Then I had to deal with Sam, the trainer, asking me a million questions about if I feel dizzy, lightheaded, any headaches, and every other symptom in the book after every single exercise. No I don't have any headaches, I'm not dizzy, and I don't feel light-headed. I feel perfectly fine, so just get me back on that mat. If I wasn't feeling alright, I would still be out, but no, there was nothing. I felt like just walking out of that room, going into the locker room, getting my wrestling shoes, and getting back on that mat.
I'm glad today was the last day of this week, and I can't wait to take that test again and show him I'm fine! Ofcourse I have to wait 'till Monday, and miss another tournament, but I can't wait. MONDAY IS MY DAY OF PEACE!

Practice Hold Up!

So today was my first day I was cleared to go back, and it was horrible. To start practicing again, especially with concussions, it is necessary to take an impact test, and pass it to officially start getting back on the mat. The trainer said because it involves my head and the swelling of my brain, they take extreme precautions when it come to concussions. So I took the test from the beginning to the end, and the trainer, Sam Lee, told me to come back in twenty-minutes for the test results; and anxiously I waited.
I went back to the trainers office, ready with my wrestling shoes and everything, and you wouldn't believe what happened. He told me that he went over the scores, and they weren't good at all. I was so mad, sad, angry at the same time,so I just said nothing and started at him. Then, he told me my score, 7 percent out of 100, and I just kept on staring at him. After, he just was talking about staying out for another week, and what I would be doing on my own with him during practice. Just as he was talking though, I just stared into space blank out of my mind. To anyone else, it wouldn't be a big deal, but this was my second year of high school wrestling and I wanted to take OIA's or HHSSA States or something; I just wanted to win.
Today, I was very disappointed. I went there thinking one thing, and getting something totally different. I'm going to take the test again on next week Monday, and hopefully things change. For now, I just have to get ready to start training with Sam this whole week. WISH ME LUCK!

Moanalua Tournament

The Moanalua tournament went by really fast. Weight-ins were at 4 o'clock, and we were one of the first dual meets on the mat exactly at 5 o'clock. The first dual meet was Kalaheo, and that was fast because there are only a few wrestlers that wrestle for them. There was a total of three matches at weight calsses 135lbs, 152lbs, and 285lbs for the boys, and none for the girls. It was only about fifteen minutes long, and then we had to wait only another hours for the next dual meet against Roosevelt.
When we were up against Roosevelt, it was a little longer. We had about a total of five matches for the boys and one match for the girls. We won the over all dual meet, and lost only one match. We had a good day today, and I'm glad it wasn't as long as usual. Finally, I can relax after taking stats all day without falling asleep because it's too late. HAPPY!

Practice with a little Moment of Truth

This week I only went to Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday practices because today I went to the doctor's for my two week check to get cleared again. During practice, because I couldn't get on the mat or do anything physically straining, I walked around the track the whole time with all the other injured people. Other than that, I help set up and roll up the mats, and help stretch people out.

Other than that, I went to the doctor's to see what the status is with the whole concussion thing. She was happy that there were no more symptoms anymore, and she cleared me to go back on Tuesday, 01-20-09. I'm so happy, and I'm excited to officially start of my second season in high school wrestling. I can't wait to write about how I did in my next tournament, and how I got first in OIA's. JUST WAIT!

Kalaheo Tournament

It was the first season tournament of the season. Well, for me atleast. Last week, I had to go to the doctor's so I missed the first official tournament of the season against Kalani and Kahuku. Kailua and Farrington were our next opponents, and we were ready.

Kailua went by fast because they only have a few wrestlers, but they managed to get one match out of it. Non of their girls had a match with us, but almost all of their boys had a match with us except for the lightest weight they had. After we versed Kailua, we waited for a good two hours untill we got to verse Farrington. We knew what was coming, but we were ready to give it our all.
Up next, Farrington. They had a stacked team, and even if we won all of our matches, we still would've lost. Ofcourse we lost, but we did it with pride and dignity. All my teammates wrestled their best today, and I'm proud of each and every one of them. TEAM CASTLE PRIDE!

Kahuku Over Night Camp

Concussions are horrible, but the thought of another one, with all the different things I've been hearing about, scares me a lot. My coach was talking to me about concussions when he mentioned a fatality from numerous concussions. He said it was a teenage boy who was playing football. He got a concussion during a football game, and went back in anyway. The following week at the next football game, he had got another one, and died on the field because of two concussions in a span of one week. The thought of that happening just scares me because this is my second one.

Any way because of my concussion, I was out for the whole camp, but I still went and supported my team. I helped prep food, clean up, and encourage my teammates; but I wasn't able to participate. I can't wait until I go back on the mat. Seeing my teammates working hard around me while I sit on the side sucks, but I know my time will come sooner than I think. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry like that football player.
Also, a lot of my teammates got hurt at the camp, too! One boy broke his arm just training with one of the wrestlers from Kahuku. Another one got hurt from overworking his legs, and now he's in a wheelchair and can hardly even walk. Our team captain, Rebeca, twisted her ankle, and to top it all off, one of our best wrestler pulled his hamstring. We worked our hardest those past couple days, and it really shows.

Farrington&Mililani Tournament

I didn't get to go to the tournament this weekend. I wen to the doctor's to check up on the status about my concussion. I heard the girls' team did great, and the boys even better. I just can't wait to go back in. I feel fine, so why can't I go back in?

Doctor Said.....

I went to the Doctor's and I wish I never did. I told her what happened, how it happened, and how I felt. Then, she asked me a couple questions, and just looked down. She said to me there was nothing good about what I told her so far. All the factors, like the impact it had on my head, how I collapsed after it occurred, and how this was my second one, was headed in the total opposite direction of what I had thought. She said I was going to be out for two weeks for sure, and that I would have to come back for a check up and we'll go from there. I'm not able to do anything with medium to high intense physical activity. Im scheduled to go back to the doctor's in two weeks on Thursday, 01-15-09. I hope it come faster than it sounds.
